About Us
Our Story & Mission: Founded in 2017 by passionate ocean advocates, John and Mary Helms, the Salty Soul Foundation was born from a simple yet powerful belief: every single piece of trash removed makes a difference. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the urgent task of cleaning our beaches and oceans. Our mission extends beyond just physical cleanups; we aim to inspire a deeper connection to marine environments and empower individuals to become lifelong stewards of our planet.
Our Impact So Far: Since our inception, we've organized countless cleanup events across Florida and California, mobilizing thousands of volunteers. We are incredibly proud to have collectively removed over 33,000 pounds of trash from our precious coastal ecosystems. But this is just the beginning. With your support, we continue to grow our reach and impact, safeguarding marine life and preserving the beauty of our shorelines for everyone.
What We Do
Beach & Ocean Cleanups: At the heart of Salty Soul Foundation are our hands-on beach and ocean cleanups. We regularly organize events that bring communities together to directly tackle marine debris. We provide all the necessary supplies – gloves, buckets, and trash bags – making it easy for anyone to participate and make an immediate, visible difference. Educational Outreach: We believe that education is key to long-term change. Through partnerships with schools, community groups, and our own initiatives, we educate people of all ages about the impact of plastic pollution, responsible waste management, and the importance of protecting marine habitats.
Children's Literature: Hunu's Journey Co-founded by John and Mary, the Salty Soul Foundation is proud to have published our first children's book, Hunu's Journey.
